There are so many reasons to be grateful for Easter.

  • Salvation
  • Forgiveness
  • Eternal Life
  • Freedom From Fear

What was that? Freedom from fear?

That’s right!

Freedom From Fear

I don’t know if I ever connected the dots between freedom from fear and Easter until I ran across this verse in Proverbs. It became a cloak that wrapped me in safety and made me believe that I could order my fearful thoughts to the back seat.

The thirty-first chapter of Proverbs and I go back a long ways. I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve read it. The Proverbs 31 Woman is the chick that has it all figured out. I usually feel more like the Proverbs 32 Woman. The desire to alter my numerical title has led me to read (and re-read) chapter thirty one.

On one such occasion I was skirting through the chapter when I nearly slipped over verse twenty-one. The glance was much like my daily pass over our neighbor’s mailbox. It’s familiarity makes me virtually blind to its presence.

The verse I nearly missed was as follows:

”She is not afraid of snow for her household, for all her household is clothed in scarlet.” Proverbs 31:21

Every other time that I had read this verse I focused on the obvious meaning. This amazing lady could keep her peeps warm.

But this time two very different things stood out.

“She is not afraid of snow for her household…”

The day I read this verse I had been plagued with worry over a situation regarding one of my kiddos.

I. Was. Afraid.

Suddenly it became extra important to me to determine why exactly our heroine was NOT afraid.

“…for all her household are covered in scarlet.

Scarlet.

Covered in scarlet.

Suddenly it felt like a light had been shone on a trail. It revealed that the path I had been meandering on through Proverbs was taking me straight up a hill called Calvary.

Easter’s approach reminded me of the scarlet that flows from the cross. A scarlet that covers me and my household.

Is there someone in your household for whom you are afraid? Worries can be legitimate. But just because a situation gives us the right to be afraid doesn’t mean we have to live in fear.

We Can Focus

We can direct our attention to the power that flows from the blood of the cross. We can pray, in faith, that our families will be covered in scarlet and there is NOTHING more powerful than that.

I hope this Easter brings you joy, peace and a sense of wonder over the miracle of the cross and everything Christ gives us through it, including…

Fist in the air freedom from fear!

Easter Blessings to you and your household.

Savoring the journey with you,

Cindy

  • This is EXACTLY what I needed to read today. Thank you Cindy for your obedience in sharing what God had to say to you through that verse. It was for me too, and no doubt many others. I am claiming this verse today over my kids and family. They are covered by the blood of my precious Savior. Have a wonderful Easter, friend:)
